Stylists Article - September 2016
The Board of Barbering and Cosmetology will host its annual overview of the practical examinations for all license categories beginning at 9 a.m., Wednesday, September 14, 2016.
Officials of the National Interstate Council of State Boards of Cosmetology (NIC), which administers the examinations on behalf of the Board, will present the overview live on the Board’s Website at www.barbercosmo.ca.gov. The purpose of the Webcast is to give the schools and apprentice sponsors an opportunity to review the exam processes and get answers or clarifications to questions they may have regarding the examinations.
Schools and apprentice sponsors who wish to submit questions related to the practical examination that will be answered during the Webcast should email their questions to firstname.lastname@example.org no later than September 2, 2016. Please put "September 2016 Webcast" on the subject line of your email.
The Board anticipates that the Webcast will last approximately 4-5 hours. Prior to the Webcast, please check the Board’s Website for further information regarding the time and link for the Webcast. This information will be made available approximately one week prior to the event; however, the link will not be accessible until the actual day of the Webcast.
Cosmetology Examination: The Board would like to remind licensing candidates that the national examination for cosmetology (both the written and practical portions) has been revised by NIC and will be administered beginning September 19, 2016.
The new candidate information bulletin (CIB) for cosmetology has been added to the Board's Website. You can find it under the "Applicants" tab, then, under "Examination Information", click on "Candidate Information Bulletins" (CIB). Only the English version is available at this time. Once the translated versions are complete, the other languages will be added to the Website. These should be available in early September.
Note: Currently, both Board examination facilities are equipped with shelves at each work station where candidates have been able to store their kit supplies during the examination. Effective September 19, 2016, the shelves will no longer be available for the candidates to use while testing. Supplies will need to be removed from the kit for each section of the examination.
